Premium bandanna - Mirri Yaana

$15.00

In Stock

Designed by Kamilaroi artist Annie-renae Winters and Canteen youth ambassador Joshua Bell.  Annie-renae Winters is a Kamilaroi woman who grew up on Wiradjuri/Gadigal land. She combines traditional Aboriginal artforms with a contemporary twist.  “Mirri Yaana meaning ‘shooting star’ in my father’s language, Kamilaroi, was one of the first words I ever learnt and I remember how excited I felt. I love the stars and the excitement of a shooting star. Hearing my traditional name for it makes me feel connected every time I see the stars at night. I love using bright colours to represent this and the excitement I feel. This bandanna has elements of the traditional Aboriginal symbol for stars but also with my own twist as an artist, making it my own.”  “Mirri Yaana is also a reflection of my culture and where I come from. It is an act of remembrance and acknowledgment of the long rich history I come from.” Annie-renae Winters, Aboriginal artist.   This premium bandanna has a satin-feel for those looking for an accessory that’s a little more luxe.   Product photography by Canteen youth ambassador Joshua Bell
